Dr. Jeff Schumacher was born and raised in Seattle, Washington but has always loved the South and just couldn’t stay away from Louisiana and the New Orleans area. He completed his undergraduate studies in Zoology at the University of Washington, Seattle and later graduated from LSU’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. As a student, Dr. Jeff conducted special research studies and participated in the Merck-Merial summer scholarship program, allowing him to make contributions to the scientific poster on the “Cartilages and Intrinsic Muscles of the Bowhead Whale Larynx.” His veterinary interests include Dermatology, Soft Tissue Surgery, Internal Medicine, Preventive Care and Marine Mammals. Dr. Jeff is a member of the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
In the 90’s Dr. Jeff served in the US Army, Infantry for six years, which allowed him to travel to places like Germany, Bosnia and Kosovo. He dubs himself a sports enthusiast with glowing affection for the LSU Tigers, UW Huskies, Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners and of course, the New Orleans Saints! Dr. Jeff enjoys reading, playing the piano and guitar, writing short stories and various outdoor activities such as hiking and swimming.
