Doug Buckler is our November Employee of the Month.  He has been with us for 6 months as a Veterinary Assistant and he is doing an excellent job.  Doug is originally from Michigan where he served 5 years in the U.S. Army with the Airborne Infintry. He moved to New Olreans 3 years ago and is currently in school studying to be a school teacher.  In his free time, Doug enjoys playing the guitar and making Mardi Gras Birdhouses to sell on Ebay.  We appreciate the great job Doug has done and we are proud to have him with us!

What's Your Diagnosis?

This is the picture of the mouth of a two year old, male neutered cat.  He was presented with a complaint of lethargy and not eating.  On physical exam, the cat had moderate amount of tarter on his teeth.  He also had severe gingivitis and ulcers on his gums and in the back of his mouth.

This diagnosis was
Feline  stomatitis.  This is a very severe inflammatory condition on cats oral cavities.  There are different theories for its cause.  Treatment involves a dental cleaning if teeth are dirty.  Then either steroids alone or a combination of antibiotics and steroids.
