Dr. Brian Melius
Dr. Brian Melius was born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana. He received his B.S. degree in dairy science in 1979. He went on to receive his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from LSU in June of 1983. Dr. Brian is the current President of Metairie Small Animal Hospital. He is a member of the American Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology, the American Veterinary Medical Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association (SLVA) and American Animal Hospital Association. He is a former president and former board member of the SLVA.
Dr. Brian has also attended classes with the David J. Kelman Research Foundation and the “LSU Special Courses on Ophthalmic Diseases and Surgery.” Certification for these studies was awarded in February 1988 and December 1986 respectively. In May of 2001 and 2002, he attended the Veterinary Postgraduate Institute in Ophthalmology. These courses have aided him in the development of his skills in the field of ophthalmology. Because of his intensive training in these programs, Dr. Brian is able to perform phacoemulsification cataract surgery as well as many other ophthalmic procedures. His other fields of interest include dermatology and endocrine related diseases.
Dr. Brian is married to Jennifer Tuero Melius. They have three daughters—Grant, Kristen and Logan. They share their home with two cats—Yanni and Monet, a very special Maltese named Daisy, a rescued mix breed named Wilson and their Golden Retriever, Zeus. Dr. Brian enjoys golfing and gardening as well as his workouts at the gym.
