Service Animals to Receive Free Eye Exams

ACVO's National Service Animal Eye Exam Event

Thousands of service animals will receive free, sight-saving eye exams thanks to the 7th Annual ACVO National Service Animal Eye Exam Event. Guide dogs, handicapped assistance animals, detection dogs, therapy animals, and search and rescue dogs are all eligible for free eye exams during the month of May. Hundreds of veterinary ophthalmologists, including Dr. Mouney of Metairie Veterinary Ophthalmology Specialists, will be donating their time to provide free eye exams. Over 22,000 service animals have been examined since the program’s launch in 2008.

Owners and handlers must first register online anytime between April 1-30, 2014. For more information and registration, visit the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists’ website at www.ACVOeyeexam.org.
