Dr. Brian Melius was born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana. He graduated from St. Martin’s Episcopal High School. He received his B.S. degree in dairy science from LSU in 1979. He went on to receive his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from LSU in June of 1983, at which time he began practicing at MSAH, where he is currently very interested in veterinary cancer research, and working with Oleander Medical Technologies on targeted osmotic Lysis. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical AssociationLouisiana Veterinary Medical Association, the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association (SLVA), and the LSU Health Foundation Board. He is a former president and former board member of the SLVA, as well as past-president of Metairie Small Animal Hospital. Dr. Brian is also a past member of the Animal Welfare Commission formed in 2009 by Governor Bobby Jindal, as well as a former Board of Trustees member for St. Martin’s Episcopal School.

Dr. Brian is married to Jennifer Tuero Melius. They have three happily married daughters—Grant (husband Ryan Worrell), Kristen (husband Ryan Gallagher) and Logan (husband Andy Vella), and four beautiful Grandchildren Liam and Audrey Gallagher, as well as John Worrell and Eloise Vella. Brian and Jennifer currently share their home with their dogs, Ruby and Angel. Dr. Brian enjoys golfing, fishing, gardening, hiking, his workouts at the gym, but mostly spending time with his family.
