Veterinarian - Partner
Dr. Joe Vaccaro was born and raised in New Orleans and attended Jesuit High School. He later attended Louisiana State University where he finished his degree in Finance. Dr. Joe moved on to the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, earning his DVM in May of 2011. He then moved back to the New Orleans area and joined MSAH.
Dr. Joe is the managing partner of our Freret Street Clinic. He's interested in internal medicine, as well as soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. He is currently a member of the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
He enjoys spending time with his wife, Lindsey, his sons Jack and Luke, and his dogs, Tillie and Sandie. In his spare time, Dr. Joe can be found fishing and hunting and of course, cheering for his favorite teams–LSU and the Saints.

Dr. Daryl Haydel graduated from Shaw High School, then studied at the University of New Orleans for four years prior to attending Louisiana State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine. He enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine, particularly Brachycephalic surgery and laser surgery. Dr. Daryl is the current President of Metairie Small Animal Hospital, as well as a past President and current member of the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Daryl currently makes his home in New Orleans with his wife, Barbara, his son, Liam, and his and pets including 4 dogs, 2 cats, and numerous reptiles. He also enjoys fishing, hiking and just being outdoors.

Dr. Brian Melius was born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana. He graduated from St. Martin’s Episcopal High School. He received his B.S. degree in dairy science from LSU in 1979. He went on to receive his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from LSU in June of 1983, at which time he began practicing at MSAH, where he is currently very interested in veterinary cancer research, and working with Oleander Medical Technologies on targeted osmotic Lysis. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association (SLVA), and the LSU Health Foundation Board. He is a former president and former board member of the SLVA, as well as past-president of Metairie Small Animal Hospital. Dr. Brian is also a past member of the Animal Welfare Commission formed in 2009 by Governor Bobby Jindal, as well as a former Board of Trustees member for St. Martin’s Episcopal School.
Dr. Brian is married to Jennifer Tuero Melius. They have three happily married daughters—Grant (husband Ryan Worrell), Kristen (husband Ryan Gallagher) and Logan (husband Andy Vella), and four beautiful Grandchildren Liam and Audrey Gallagher, as well as John Worrell and Eloise Vella. Brian and Jennifer currently share their home with their dogs, Ruby and Angel. Dr. Brian enjoys golfing, fishing, gardening, hiking, his workouts at the gym, but mostly spending time with his family.

Dr. Wegmann grew up in Minnesota and moved to New Orleans in 1984. She is a Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Magna Cum Lauda from North Carolina State University with a BS in Zoology. She graduated at the top of her class from LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000 and has enjoyed working at MSAH ever since. She has special interest in ultrasound, internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. She is married to Randy Wegmann, an equine veterinarian, and has a daughter Avery. The entire family participates in showing horses in the hunter/jumper sport. She has a mixed breed dog, Jackman, and a cat named Truffle that also complete their family. They live on 18 beautiful acres where they run a boarding/training facility named Tavia Equine Center.

Dr. Rene Baumer is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born and raised in Lakeview and graduated from Jesuit High School. After high school, Dr. Rene completed his undergraduate studies at Louisiana State University. He then attended LSU School of Veterinary Medicine where he obtained his degree. While he has always had a passion for Veterinary Medicine, his main focus is Orthopedics and Soft Tissue Surgery. Dr. Rene is a member of the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He currently resides in the Lakeview area of New Orleans with his wife Dana, their son Max, and their five dogs.

Dr. Fabacher grew up in Metairie, Louisiana and began working as a veterinary assistant at Metairie Small Animal Hospital while attending Rummel High School. He went on to graduate from LSU with a degree in Animal Science, while working as a research associate studying poultry diseases in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Science. Dr. Chris received his degree from LSU's School of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. His primary interests lie in orthopedic and general surgery. He is a member of the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Veterinary Orthopedic Society. Dr. Chris married Patricia Melius in 1975, has two daughters Courtney and Megan, and is proudly the grandfather 8. Dr. Chris enjoys spending time with his dogs, fishing and golf.

Dr. Mayer is a New Orleans native who received his B.A. in biology from the University of New Orleans in 1978 and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from LSU in 1983. While he takes special interest in general surgery, orthopedics and laser oncology surgery, he enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine. Dr. Mayer is a member of the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Along with his wife Lisa and five daughters (Rachael, Caroline, Megan, Kristin and Simone) Dr. Mayer’s household includes an assortment of birds, fish, turtles, cats and dogs. His daughter, Megan, has joined the practice and he excited to share a profession they both love. He enjoys sports activities with his children, has a passion for "anything outdoors,” and has 7 grandchildren, whom he loves spending time with.

Dr. Mary Brewington was born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana. She earned a B.S. in Animal Sciences from LSU in 2009, and then went on to study at the Royal Veterinary College in London, England where she received her veterinary degree in July 2014. While attending RVC, she had the opportunity to spend three weeks in Indonesia as part of a student research team analyzing sustainable shrimp farming in the area. Dr. Mary worked at MSAH’s main hospital throughout high school, college, and vet school as a veterinary assistant. She rejoined the MSAH team as a doctor in March of 2016, having previously worked at a small animal clinic in New Orleans since graduation. Dr. Mary is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, and the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association. She currently resides in Gentilly with her husband, Ryan and her lovable havenese mix Lucy. Her interests include traveling, reading, cooking, and recently, the art of gardening.

Dr. Meredith Addison was born and raised in Monroe, Louisiana. She received her B.S. degree in Biological Sciences from LSU. She went on to receive her Masters in Animal Sciences from LSU, before attending LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, Dr. Meredith worked in Las Vegas, NV, for a year before returning to her home state to work at MSAH. She’s currently a member of the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Veterinary Medical Association. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, but her favorite is soft tissue surgery. Dr. Meredith resides with her fiancé and her two labs, Tig and Two. She enjoys outdoor activities with her dogs, traveling, going to visit her family farm, LSU football, hiking, running, and eating sweets.

Dr. Megan Mayer was raised in the New Orleans area and began working as a kennel attendant at MSAH while attending Mount Carmel Academy. She continued with MSAH throughout high school and college, working as a veterinary assistant and on our Emergency Team. She obtained her undergraduate degree in poultry science from Louisiana State University. Dr. Megan attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and received her veterinary degree in January 2017. She looks forward to growing in the profession alongside her father, Dr. Siggy. Dr. Megan has two Dachshunds, Gracie and Winston, and a Sulcata tortoise, Riesling. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and being outdoors.
