Metairie Small Animal Hospital (MSAH)

Grooming

Regular grooming is essential to the maintenance of your pet's health. Keep your pet smelling and looking attractive, prevent parasites, and skin irritations.

Overview

While grooming should be done on a consistent basis, the frequency to which your pet needs to be groomed will depend somewhat on daily routines, coat type, age and general health. In addition, your pet will benefit from regular brushing to remove any loose hairs and dead skin cells, to rid the coat of debris and external parasites, and to disseminate skin oils that form along the hair shafts.

Grooming Services

We can assist in recommending the proper tools to use for your pet's coat type. If your pet suffers from allergies, our veterinarian may prescribe regular bathing as part of the treatment routine. Be sure to notify us of any special needs your pet may require such as specific shampoos or eye care and bring any of these products with you to your appointment. Please schedule your pet's appointment in advance, especially during the warmer summer months and near the holiday seasons. We are happy to offer the following services to assist in the health and maintenance of your pet:

  • Grooming Services

  • Ear Cleaning

  • Anal Gland Expressing

  • Bathing

  • Coat Brushing

  • Shearing

Grooming at Metairie Small Animal Hospital

Bathing and Grooming Services are offered at our Outpatient Clinics in Kenner and Lakeview. Our groomers are available to do standard or breed-specific clips as well as sanitary clips, summer “shave downs,” or any other special clip you may be interested in for your dog or cat. Simply ask to speak to our groomer when you drop off your pet to discuss your preferences.

For your convenience, our doctors are also available to see your pet while visiting the groomer. So, if your animal needs an exam, vaccines or other medical treatment, we can take care of all of it on one visit! Our doctors are also available to administer light sedation to those animals who become easily stressed. Speak to our Receptionist Team when you drop off for more information.

Grooming is scheduled by appointment only to assure that each pet is attended to promptly and available for pick-up on time. We ask that all grooming pets be dropped off prior to 10 a.m. to allow enough time for your pets to be pampered properly. Call the location nearest you to make your grooming appointment today!
